It is one of the most enthralling productions of the year for Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad. After the last residency project with KWAK rock band from France and Kadamb dancers and musicians in November 2011, it is going to be another treat to the music-lovers of Ahmedabad to witness the blending of France and India through another residency this summer.
OZMA is a jazz band from Strasbourg, France and is in residency with Darpana musicians in Ahmedabad to blend with the Carnatic music of the Southern India. The meeting of flute and nadswaram with saxophone, thavil, edakka and mridangam with drums and guitar with violin generates new sounds and style. Their music is serene, the feeling, sublime!
The treat becomes a special and unique one since they will not offer only one or two but three concerts back-to-back. The first concert will be a Jazz Concert with the regular repertory of OZMA. On one hand, OZMA seems to be a mutant jazz band, on the other, an electronic jungle of sounds, a group of nowadays, working within the heritage of rock, jazz and experimental musics. The second day is a very special day as it offers a cine-concert. Buster Keaton’s mute film “The Three Ages” will be screened with OZMA playing the soundtrack in live. Ahmedabad will witness such concert for the first time.
The last performance in the city will take place on Saturday, 14 April when the Darpana musicians will join OZMA to present the jugalbandhi they developed during the residency. But the treat is not over with it, the cultural meetings go further to include classical Indian dance forms to expand the grandeur of this gala concert by having Revanta Sarabhai to perform Bharatnatyam and Sanjukta Sinha to perform Kathak during the concert. What a feast!
Ozma continues its tour in India with the network of Alliances françaises of India.APR12 : OZMA Quartet, Natarani, Ahmedabad APR13 : Ciné-concert les Trois Âges, Natarani, Ahmedabad
